Michael Curtis is an associate in the White Plains office of Coffey Modica O’Meara Capowski. A member of the firm’s Casualty Practice, Michael brings to the firm and its clients a strong background in legal research and writing, having first worked in the Appeals Bureau at the Queens County District Attorney’s Office, and then as Principal Court Attorney for the Hon. Ushir Pandit-Durant, Justice of the Supreme Court, Queens County, Criminal Term. Michael is also especially skilled at working on high-pressure, time-sensitive matters from his years working on criminal cases in the Queens County District Attorney’s Office, specifically, the Homicide Investigations Bureau. There, he conducted investigations into all manners of death including homicides, suicides, accidental deaths, automobile collisions, construction fatalities, police shootings and the like. He understands the importance of early, active investigation to collect and preserve evidence that could be critical to defending a case.
Overview And Experience
Michael’s experience as a criminal lawyer has prepared him for the rigors of defending casualty matters of all sizes, including high-exposure, catastrophic loss cases. He understands how to extract information to build a strong defense and uses the skills he honed interviewing criminal suspects, cooperators, and eyewitnesses to effectively depose parties to his cases. Michael appreciates his clients’ desire to minimize their legal costs, and as such often devises strategies to remove his clients from a case or settle early. But Michael is also a trial attorney, and when necessary, will take a case to trial.
